Hamilton County Clerk of Courts Aftab Pureval

Aftab PurevalAftab Pureval was born and raised in Southwest Ohio.  His parents are first-generation Americans who came to this country to create a better opportunity for themselves and their family.  Aftab’s father worked his way up from bagging groceries to becoming a manager at Lockheed Martin.  He instilled in Aftab the importance of hard work and devotion to family.

A Product of Ohio Public Schools

Aftab attended public schools before matriculating to The Ohio State University.  At Ohio State, Aftab served as student body president, where, among other efforts to improve his community, he lobbied the Ohio state legislature for increased funding for higher education.

Following college, Aftab went from being a Buckeye to a Bearcat and attended law school at the University of Cincinnati College of Law.  At UC, he was an editor of the Law Review and worked in the Domestic Violence Clinic representing women who were victims of violence.  He was also appointed by Governor Bob Taft to work on a taskforce with university presidents and state legislators to study higher-education funding and submit strategies for reform.

After law school, Aftab moved to Washington, D.C., to join White & Case LLP, one of the largest law firms in the country. While at White & Case, Aftab was honored with a firm-wide award for his pro bono work representing battered women.

Protecting Ohio’s Families

Deciding that he wanted to come home and serve his community, Aftab returned to Hamilton County where he worked as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Department of Justice.  As a federal prosecutor, Aftab worked with the FBI, Secret Service, and other law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute felonies involving guns, crimes against children, and white-collar crimes.
